CEX (centralized exchange)

Also written or said as: centralized exchange, exchange, cexes

A company-run exchange such as Bybit, Coinbase or Binance, where you buy crypto with normal money.

A CEX holds your money for you, checks your ID and lets you buy SOL with a card or a bank transfer. Most people buy their first SOL on one and then withdraw it to their own wallet to trade memecoins. Coins on an exchange are not in your wallet: if the exchange freezes your account or fails, you wait or you lose.

This guide is for learning. It is not financial advice. Most memecoins go to zero and most people who trade them lose money. Only ever trade what you can afford to lose.
