Cryptocurrency

Also written or said as: crypto, digital currency, digital asset

Digital money that lives on a blockchain instead of in a bank.

Bitcoin was the first, in 2009. Ethereum and Solana followed with blockchains that can run programs, which made tokens, on-chain exchanges and memecoins possible. Prices swing far more than normal money, and there is no bank to call when something goes wrong.
