Hard rug

Also written or said as: liquidity pull, lp pull, pulled liquidity, pulled lp

A rug that leaves holders unable to get their money out: the pool is pulled, new tokens are printed or accounts are frozen.

It needs a switch the creator kept: the LP tokens of a pool they built, the mint authority, the freeze authority, or an extra setting like a permanent delegate. pump.fun switches these off for every coin and burns the LP tokens when a coin graduates, so a crash there is usually a soft rug, insiders selling into buyers. Some traders call any sudden dev dump a hard rug; this guide calls that a soft rug. Revoked authorities and burned or locked LP, checked before you buy, are the defence.

This guide is for learning. It is not financial advice. Most memecoins go to zero and most people who trade them lose money. Only ever trade what you can afford to lose.
